Think, Act and Be Different

As children, we are taught that grave consequences occur if we dare step out of line. For self-preservation, we intuitively stay in line, or else. To most, “or else” is ridicule, rejection, and dis-fellowship from the group. The fear of standing alone can be devastating, but standing alone while being criticized, and shamed is a fate worse than death. What sane person would want that? Especially when staying in line rewards you with approval, amity, and acceptance.

Few have the grit to question the “line,” norm, or masses and risk being shunned because their opinions are not in line with the crowd. We all want to live abundant, happy, full lives. But, we have to ask: “At what price? What are we willing to sacrifice to achieve our dreams, and is our dream worth it?”

It can be scary, but you must stand for what you truly believe, especially if it means not standing in line. Never stop questioning things that don’t ring true. If you want to make a difference, it will mean you embrace nonconformity. We must never settle for easy, average or mediocre. We must dream and strive for excellence not yet imagined.
